The office cake culture is pervasive in the UK and elsewhere. It's often a birthday event when cake and other pastries are in profusion at the workplace. But all that sugar and fat - they're not so good for health (including teeth).
- Dental surgeons in the UK have issued a statement against the consumption of cakes and sugary treats in the office.
- Their biggest concern was the ever-increasing rates of obesity and diabetes and the problem of tooth decay.
- Sugar has been found to be bad for your brain since it causes inflammation. Sugar is also linked to poor memory.
"A psychologist at the Center for Behavioral Neuroscience at American University told public radio that saturated fats and sugars appear to impair functioning in the hippocampus, the part of the brain associated with memory."
