NEBDN - National Diploma in Dental Nursing 18+
Classroom-Based Study Not For You? No Problem! Why Not Take Our NEBDN E-Learning Course
At the Dental Nursing Academy we're proud to launch our new e-learning course for those looking to embark on a career in dental nursing. The Diploma in Dental Nursing provides a foundation for those looking to become fully qualified dental care professionals (DCP's).
Consisting of a mix of lessons, assignments, and online assessments, the e-learning modules can be accessed at any time. Whether that's on a weekend or bank holiday, or at 6am in the morning before you start your day, you learn your way!
Who is this course designed for?
The standard NEBDN Diploma course is designed for students already placed in dental practices and offers a mix of practical practice-based learning alongside classroom-based theoretical learning. The e-learning course follows exactly the same training program, except much of the theory aspect of the course is carried out via a series of online modules. Theoretical training therefore can be done in the comfort of the student's own home, when they see fit.
As a result the course would suit a wide variety of people including:
Those who learn better on a one-to-one basis
Those who don't have the time to attend classroom-based training
Those who live remotely and have difficultly in attending class-room based training
Those who prefer the flexibility of learning when they want, where they want
In addition e-learning can be beneficial for the practice as no time is lost from the working environment.
About the course
Students can expect this course to last for 12 months but in order to become fully qualified (including exams) candidates might need to allow up to 18 months. Similar to the standard NEBDN Diploma course, students are expected to have a placement in a dental practice before they enrol. However our in-house recruitment team can help you find a placement if you haven't got one already.
Also like the conventional classroom-based diploma course, candidates are assigned a tutor who will support and mentor you through your course, helping you build your 'record of experience 'log. Only when a student's log has been signed off as competent can they enter the examination phase of the process.
Exams are split into two phases. The first being the theory-based exam which is held at the centre by the NEBDN. Students will be tested on all aspects of the e-learning programme which covers areas such as:
Health and safety in the dental workplace
Workplace infection control
Dealing with dental surgery emergencies
Recognising and dealing with legal and ethical issues
Oral disease and pathology
Anatomical structure of the mouth
Patient care and management
Promotion of oral health
Materials, equipment, instruments, and dental drugs used in practice
Patient record management
Pain and anxiety control
The second exam is known as OSCE or objective structured clinical examinations and tests students in situ under acute clinical conditions. All exams take place twice a year in April and again in November.
The cost for this course is £1499 + £485 for examination fees and included in the price is
Access to all training and online materials
24 hour 365 day a year online support
Free first aid training with a certificate valid for 12 months.
A fully completed 'record of experience' log necessary before students can sit any formal assessments
Full registration with the GDC upon completion
So what can students expect upon completion?
When the candidate has completed their training and exams they can expect to find work in a dental practice. Many dental placements will take their trainees on as fully qualified dental nurses but even if this isn't the case, our in-house recruitment team will help you to develop the skills necessary to find employment. We've helped 100's of nurses find their dream job and we can help you too.
In addition the NEBDN Diploma in Dental Nursing is a fully recognised qualification which allows the holder access to further study at higher apprenticeship or degree level. This means that students can go on to specialise in areas such as:
Dental Hygiene and Therapy
Oral Health Education
What about earning potential?
Newly qualified dental nurses can expect to earn around £16,000 and with a few years of experience they can earn £18,000 -£22,000. Those in specialist fields such as those listed above or those in team leader roles can expect to earn anything up to £27,600.
