Qualified Dental Nurse - Sheila's Story
Unlike many students Sheila wasn't new to the working world. She had already been in employment for some years working in the administrative sector, but had become disillusioned with it. While she knew that she needed a change of career, Sheila wasn't sure what that change would be. She knew that it had to be something rewarding and something she would enjoy, but as of yet, she hadn't had that 'epiphany' moment. That is until she paid a visit to her local dentist.
During a routine check-up Sheila confided in her dentist about the yearning to have a job that would add both value and contentment to her life. It was then her dentist turned to her and suggested that she might want to think about a career in dental nursing. After some careful thought and some further investigation she came to the conclusion that it did indeed tick all the boxes. So trustingly, she took her dentist's advice and plucked up the courage to enrol at the Dental Nursing Academy as a trainee dental nurse.
At first Sheila appeared hesitant about changing her career and starting her studies again as a mature student but she received complete support both from the Academy staff and the other course students. As the weeks progressed she started to gain in confidence as she began to interact with a variety of people from different backgrounds and cultures.
So what persuaded her to enrol with the Dental Nursing Academy?
Sheila couldn't afford to stop work and study full time, so she needed a course that would fit around her exacting needs and requirements. As it happened, the classes at the DNA were scheduled fortnightly on Sundays, so this meant that Sheila could continue her working week and was able to study on the weekends. Her existing career wasn't affected and most importantly, she was able to earn while she learned.
Where is Sheila now?
Some months on and Sheila has managed to land herself a job as a fully qualified dental nurse in a six surgery practice in Woodford Green. As part of a large team, she's really happy in her current job role as everyone around her is very supportive; including a boss who wholeheartedly supports her career growth. Now she can say with confidence that changing career paths to become a dental care professional was definitely the right move. For now Sheila plans to take further studies in dental education to progress her career, but eventually she would like to become a Dental Nurse Specialist where she can command more for her services.
