With our Oral Health Education course you can gain a recognised qualification ton enabling you to work as an oral health educator to help others prevent dental diseases across the nation along with teaching necessary skills for better oral health.

As a Dental Nurse you are already have excellent skills and knowledge in helping to improve patients oral healthcare but by studying oral health education you can go one step further.

The course leads to the nationally recognised BDA Education Certificate in Oral Health Education, which qualifies you to work as an Oral Health Educator within your practice.

Eligibility

You must be a registered dental nurse with your GDC number
Have your own laptop or access to one and internet access
Work in practice with a supportive GDC registered dentist
Good level of English is required
Commit fully to the course

Oral health target groups
Delivering oral health messages to patient groups
Oral disease prevention

How you will be assessed

On your course you will complete 27 modules through remote learning Over the first 8 weeks. Students will then be expected to complete a Practical Portfolio. You will be given approximately 4 months to complete the practical work. This is in 3 parts.

You will produce 2 full lesson plans for oral health sessions
You will plan and deliver 6 oral health sessions on patients referred to you by your dentist
You will then plan, produce and evaluate a display to go in your workplace on oral health

Once the Portfolio has been completed to the required standard, students will then sit an online examination.

Exams

Your final exam will be sat online and you will need a PC or laptop with a built in external webcam and microphone and full broadband connection to complete this. Windows or Mac is fine. You cannot use your smartphones or tables to do the exam as these will not be compatible with the software.

All exams are held in March, September and November each year.

On course completion you will receive your certificate and badge.
